The
Thomson Foundation undertook The EU-India Media Initiative
on HIV/AIDS from December 2004 to December 2006 with the
financial support of the European Union and the involvement
of its Indian and international partners. The project encompassed
intensive training programmes, innovative media activities
and numerous widely appreciated outcomes.

HIV/AIDS
Media Manual:
The Media Manual 2007 was released at a function held in Delhi
on World AIDS Day, 2006 (click_here_for_photographs
of the event). Like the earlier edition (2005), this editions
was also distributed to newsrooms, journalism schools and
NGOs across India and internationally. Click

Media Manual in Indian languages:
The Media Manual has been translated into four Indian languages.

Reporting HIV/AIDS Media Awards:
Six journalists/ programme makers were awarded for excellence
in reporting HIV/AIDS in each of the two years of the project.
They went on study tours of European organizations working
on HIV/AIDS.

Keep the Promise:
A compilation of eight songs on HIV/AIDS written and performed
by Indian musicians was released on CD on World AIDS Day 2006.

NGO
workshops:
Two workshops were organized for activists and network heads
from the Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS. Click

Workshops:
114 journalists and programme makers from print, radio and
television attended 12 workshops conducted by international
trainers and resource persons. Among the many highlights was
a recorded message from Justice

Bursaries for Special Stories:
The project awarded 19 bursaries to media professionals and
supported special print stories and radio/television productions.

Seminars
in Journalism Schools:
Trainers on HIV/AIDS reached out to more than 500 students
in 14 journalism schools all over India during seminars and
dedicated sessions so as to acquaint the journalists of tomorrow
with the issues surrounding this emotive issue. Click here
